If you have a choice when renting a car in Savannah don't use Thrifty/Dollar as they are a franchisee and operate under different rules than "corporate" locations. As Dollar/Thrifty corporate customer service reps told me there is "nothing they can do" with regards to disputes, extra charges, etc. as this is a "privately owned" franchise. And apparently Dollar/Thrifty has hundreds of these private franchisees all over the country. My advice is to rent cars from someone else that has consistent customer service policies.
Also made the mistake of following Google Maps to the airport. Took me via a toll road, with no options to pay at a booth. Got the bill today ($7.50 toll, $30 'administrative fee')! The very definition of highway robbery.
Upon return, I was yelled at for following their sign that said to return 'rental vehicles here'. Apparently they had moved next door without updating their signage.
No one in the lot knew anything about anything. I was basically told to take whatever car I wanted.. When I got to the checkout booth in the lot, there was a backup around the block as they scrambled to re-assign vehicles.
Worst rental experience, ever - and that's saying something! Had to check in with a 'robot' counter person working from home - in the Dollar office, which had counter people. No options were given, other than how much more I wanted to add on to the reasonable price I was offered online. For example: "Pick your coverage," even though I had purchased insurance through the online broker.
I made a reservation on May 20th and scheduled to pick my car up at 9:00 p.m. I arrived early and had to wait in line for 25 minutes. After walking up, I was told all they had available were pick-up trucks. I inquired on my reservation of a mid-size SUV, only to be told they didn't have that. I then asked what was the point of making a reservation. The customer service rep told me it was too complex to explain. I then stated try. She proceeded to simply tell me they gave it away. I will never use this company again and will tell all of my friends, family, neighbors and anyone else who needs a rental.
This was Denver International, BTW, but I see they aren't so good other places as well. Never again!!
Made me do the initial inspection of the car after sitting for 40 minutes waiting to be taken care of. Was given a car that hadn't been cleaned. When I returned it, they simply took my keys and said have a good day. HORRIBLE service. Will never use them again.
Stay Away. They Lied. Wrote up the contract wrong and deceitfully. Overcharged me after I dropped of the car. Go with the other company kiosk when in Savannah. (Details: I asked specifically how much a rental from arrival to departure would cost. She gave me a quote. I said ok I will rent for that much, if it would have been higher I would of used other means during my trip. I returned the car and days after got charged an extra day because she wrote the contract up as the car getting dropped off in the morning, not at the time I said I was going to drop it off and didn't quote me that day and so she (willfully or not) told me a cheaper quote than it was going to actually be. Granted, I should of read over the contract really slowly and held the line up more but I was more focused on insurance details and took for granted they wouldn't alter the time and dates.) I asked to talk to the manager and they never responded. It was about a month ago which tells me they probably do this as a tactic of getting more customers and profits through deceitful means.
