Won't use them again....ever. $200 for a simple service call. They take advantage of the elderly.

This is my first but not my last review, as I'm still waiting a call from the "manager" after speaking with someone else at Consolidated yesterday. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A "BAD" OR "POOR" REVIEW. DOING A POST REQUIRES STARS TO BE CHECKED. I SINCERELY HOPE TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THEM 5 STARS AS THEY WERE EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE WHEN I CALLED. MARTINE, WHO WORKS FOR THE MANAGER COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE CORDIAL AND POLITE. My call was and is to discuss the $357 bill I received for installing a Moen 1200 shower cartridge. They were here for less than 30 minutes. To make a long story short, I've installed these cartridges 3 or 4 times previously in our homes over time. I installed the latest cartridge. Moen doesn't identify hot/cold on the cartridge. My wife told me that the hot water only came out when the shower handle was turned right (should be left). I admit that I didn't test it after installing the cartridge. No big deal. I took the cartridge out & flipped it. For the first time, I couldn't get it back in where I could put the retaining washer on. I tried for 2 hours to no avail. I called Consolidated on a search on Angies List as they had 3 reviews and an A rating. They said some technicians were close by. They managed between the two of them to get the cartridge back in. They had some trouble themselves putting the faceplate back. I pointed out to them that they weren't putting it back on correctly. They took it back off and discovered that the framing (2x4) behind the enclosure needed to be pushed aside (it was loose) as it was preventing the faceplate from being installed properly. All this took less than 30 minutes. I'm now going to call them again to try to speak with the "manager" to discuss this outrageous bill. I've researched plumbing estimating manual which stated a range from $125 - $200 depending on location, etc. I do truly believe that there is a mistake in the billing. I hope that is the case. Stay tuned. As an update: I called and spoke with Martine again. She assured me that she didn't forget me and did leave a message with her manager who is in and out of the office but would be back in a few hours as he had to review some invoices (one being mine). SECOND UPDATE: Today is the third day and no phone call from Consolidated. Again, I called. Today, a male voice answered the phone and I asked for a manager. He said he was a manager. I started to tell him why I was calling and he said that there were "3 managers here". I told him that I had been talking with Martine for the past two days. He put me on a brief hold and after speaking with Martine, he got back on and said that he was the one that Martine was speaking with and that he now remembers. He said that the $357 did seem a little high so he "discounted" the bill by $73.90 to $283.50. I told him that I still thought that was way too high and proceeded to tell him what I've written above. I asked him if HE thought that the $283.50 was too high for what they've done. He was adamant in that their discounted price was very generous in that it was "an after hours call and that he was paying overtime" to the techs. I told him it was not an after hours call as I called around 4pm and that I was told that the techs were close by and would come right over. They got to my house around 4:50 pm. He said that the office "closed at 4:30 pm" so that's why it was an after hours call. I told him that no one told me that when I called at 4:00 pm that it was going to cause me to pay an after hours rate. He then discounted the bill again to $275 saying that was the bottom line. It's very seldom that I will post a review, but in this case, I am. I got this company from Angies List because they had 3 reviews and all were an "A" rating. Not for long, as that's where I'm going next. Looks like the one star Google rating stands.
