The Public is priced reasonably and has an excellent beer selection. Staff was professional and efficient. A must visit.
My wife and I have gotten to know some of the staff and bartenders over the years and the owner has visited our table on multiple occasions, not just to see how our food is, but to interact with us as people. This is a truly special establishment and, all in all, my personal favorite in all of Savannah.
The public kitchen and bar has a wonderful selection of beverages and entrees! My fiancé and I were on vacation in the area and just walked in as we were walking. Needless to say we were impressed with there decor and there food was delicious. Definitely worth a visit while you’re in Savannah.
The Public has it all figured out between their perfectly crafted cocktails, food, and atmosphere. There is no bad place to be seated in the whole place. The outside tables on the sidewalks of Liberty and Bull have wonderful charm, the upper and lower rooms inside are impeccably decorated with dark wood and Edison bulbs, and this may be the only fine dining place in Savannah that I would be pleased to eat my meal at the bar. Their engaging and considerate staff all work together to make visitors feel at home as soon as they walk up to the door.
Wow, so glad we found this place reviewed online. Food was as good as LA or NYC. Cutting edge modern. Not southern and thank God not to touristy. Fair priced, impeccable service. We went for lunch, was the best lunch of our trip.
Lamb Burger!!! If nothing else stop for this one item. Served with goat cheese and a fig jam, this Burger is perfect after a night of strolling through the squares.
As a bourbon drinker my favorite cocktail is the Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Even if I don't planning on it, I always end up ordering a starter. The warm olives and spinach dip are difficult to choose between. For gluten-free folks, know that the burgers are worth getting with no bun. The oaxaca and lamb are delicious. As for entrees, there is not a bad or even mediocre one, but the stuffed chicken mole might just be my dish of choice even in the face of more elegant dishes like the lamb shank and the NY strip.
Inside, we found The Public to be very cozy and intimate; an atmosphere that you find mostly reserved for restaurants after dusk, but we enjoyed that ambiance here at mid-afternoon (we dined inside, but outside were round cafe tables sprinkled along the walls- comfortably shaded by the canopies from cloth awnings and live oaks.) The servers were excellent and attentive; the meals were very good and authentic (we ate there three days in a row). The Public is such a gem in Savannah. Anyone who is looking for a dining experience that whets both the eyes and stomach should go there- you won't be disappointed.
We also had the paella, which so fragrant with mussels and warming with it's chorizo.
The Public was an delectable delight we found during a light rain shower. The host we met as we entered was very engaging and witty: his cordial banter beckoned us all the more to go inside and try their menu.
