Not fancy (at all) but they serve great southern food (fried chicken, meatloaf, pecan encrusted fish, etc.) with quick and friendly service. Around a dozen side dishes...you can't go wrong with any of them.
Save room for the banana pudding! Not the world's best as suggested by the Food Network, but a nice finish to your meal. Interestingly, it's topped with pecans and has no whipped cream or meringue.
Visited when we were in Savannah in August. I think they had signs saying the place would be relocating soon. It's a cozy place and the food was very tasty. The waitress had that southern charm. The prices were good but the portions seemed small. My sons and I were still hungry after our meals.
Desserts recommended by a friend. Came for sweet potato pie and banana pudding. Walked in to smiles and southern hospitality from the owner and staff. I'm picky when it comes to banana pudding but glad we ordered 2 because I'm not sharing.
Wonderful down-home Southern cooking off the beaten path from Downtown. Sides were succulent - we had corn pudding and baked mac and cheese. Service was friendly and attentive. The banana pudding - filled with pieces of fresh banana, adorned with pecans and vanilla wafers -- may be the best on the planet. We were very happy that we took the trip to Sweet Potatoes; you will be too.
After seeing the reviews of this establishment, I was skeptical. Little did I know it turned out to be the best country fried chicken I've ever had along with the garlic mashed potatoes. In addition, the banana pudding is no joke, PLEASE indulge yourself. The staff is friendly and the service is phenomenal! It may not be the fanciest restaurant, but by all means it is the most satisfying.
