I studied Graphic Design and Painting at SCAD many years ago when it was a smaller school. Although I did enjoy the fine arts environment and made some lasting friendships there—I do not think the school did a great job of providing its students with real world skills that would actually pay off in the market place. My recommendation to prospective students is to talk with industry professionals that are doing the work you eventually want to do and get a feel for the job itself and also the salary it will pay. The high price of this school does not provide a good ROI (return on investment) for it’s students.

After I moved to Atlanta and attended a different art school I got the skills I needed to have a productive career, I stayed busy and could not only pay my bills but do much more. I would strongly recommend taking a look at the practical side of the education you are looking for and diligently explore your options.

I never went to this school but I think very nice building, I don't prefer Savannah, but behind the school has very good PR tragedy. Very nice website and lot's of event around this school. I met lot of people who just know somebody or graduated up there, I talked with Teacher but I NEVER EVER heard good thing of this school. When a Professor said negative thing and suggest not go to here...but they said unfortunately I have to say this is a best school, because nobody want to lose job. I am professional tailor like old fashion bespoke tailor, I never went to school just learn from other people. I worked seamstress factory in Savannah, and now I director at Sewing factory in Charlotte. Couple graduated student apply different position most of is seamstress or pattern maker, but unfortunately NOBADY could't hold any position in here. All failed most of them CAN"T sew, CAN'T Make pattern all of them FIRED after I wrote the school nice letter because a quality this school terrible, Answer was the work place have to teach what they want to do the employee, This work place isn't school we make money here and business if the graduated person has no get basic how is teach anything. people pay 50.000$ per year and never ever find job...I worked with couple designer Who has store in Savannah. But I have terrible experience, most of them not even has fabric knowledge....when we talked with design and techniques they don't know what am I talking! They don't know any sewing techniques or garment finishing. Like I talk with my Grandmother but maybe mine grand mom has more fashion skills like those people. I don't understand how they find job???? I have never ever experience that terrible school system and I can't imagine what kind of teacher work there. Most of student hired the scad with out any real work or manufacture experience. I ask how? if the school is suck and this person teaching for this sucks skills for every student.

Hmmm I'm reading reviews and I'm about 90% done with the whole attending the college but I'm still so in shock about these reviews... is it really that bad of a college? I'm going for illustration... someone please let me know... the money part, I'm not too worried about. I will leave that in God's hands and hopefully get a scholarship. But someone tell me if illustration is even a good major to study there or if it's even a good college at all...

I hope this place is fun and it looks fun too I can't wait until I get there but probably when I'm older.

SCAD is the place to go for self-motivated artists who don't need to have their hand held. You can learn career-making skills and portfolios, but you will only get as much as you put in. Work for it, and you will be a success.
