All of the 8th grade math teachers are substitutes and they don't know how to teach the subject. Also most of the teachers cant teach.
The art teachers are bad and don't know how to handle disabled kids (I am disabled and can't walk long distances.) My friend had to carry my wheelchair down stone stars while my other friend had to half carry me down the stone stairs during an "educational" walking field trip. They said they didn't think of me. My wheelchair got very banged up during theses trips. The art teachers also said I needed art lessons but wouldn't help me or teach me. The art teachers didn't really do anything they are very flaky. Most of the middle school teachers were either mean or didn't care and didn't teach. I do know the band director is really good and truly cares. There are some great teachers but there are also some really bad ones. If your child is disabled you will have to fight and fight for them if they have art or bad teachers. The best teacher I had was Dr.Dixon. She was also one of the few who cared and she had rules unlike most teachers. The school is great for band but not so much art if you have Ms. Their or Mrs. kadany, (who are most likely still there as of the 2017-2018 school year.) I was at garrison for 3 years. Overall its a decent school but it truly needs a better staff and touch ups. It has potential to be so much better.
I'm gonna say this how us kids these days put it: TBH// I feel trapped. I have been here since first grade...FINALLY my last year, Thank God!
I've been at this schoool since 2nd grade. It's more unusual punishment then school, I'm forced to teach myself since the teachers don't understand what their job is. Reporting teachers and their lack of education just lets them teach another year. 7th grade was a joke, 6th grade I didn't learn anything and 5th grade I was too busy being told to walk around the playground to actually learn anything. Don't forget that most of the teachers are quit ignorant and wants us to treat them with respect when they don't even treat us like people, we are trash in their eyes.
We have attended pre-k and kindergarten at Garrison and couldn't be more pleased. We have had a lot of communication from the principals and teachers. My daughter gets hugs every morning when she is dropped of and receives tons of feedback on behavior and academic progress. Highly recommended!!!
